 Jhe Russell is an award winning dancer, choreographer, teacher and recording artist who goes by the name, Rawzen. Mr. Russell has danced as a soloist with the National Ballet of Canada and Bejart Ballet Lausanne. In 1999 Mr. Russell won the Erik Bruhn prize and some of his principal roles include, "Basilio" in Don Quixote, "Phlegmatic" in George Balanchine's Four Temperaments, a "Sailor" in Jerome Robbin's Fancy Free, "Giggling" rapids" in Alvin Ailey's The River and "Shiva" in Maurice Bejart's Bhakti 3.

Mr. Russell is known for his powerful stage presence and in 2004 has been qouted as being "dynamically expressive" from dance critic Judith Mackrell of the Guardian news paper in London England.

For The National Ballet of Canada's choreographic workshop in 2001, Mr. Russell choreographed a piece entitled "Freestyle",  a combination of Hip Hop and ballet where he show cased his poetry improvisantional skills. 

In 2013 at Bejart Ballet, Mr. Russell recreated the role of the "Thief" in Maurice Bejart's ballet entitled Manteau and he also held choreographic work shops with Rudra students of Bejart Ballet Lausanne.   

As a teacher and choreographer Mr. Russell has most notably worked with The Royal Ballet of London and Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet in 2014.  Mr. Russell has taught all ages and gives detailed intstruction in Ballet, contemporary,pas dedux, variations and pointe.

Mr. Russell was featured in The Royal Academy of Dance Magazine entitled the Dance Gazzette for his dance teaching skills  written by Dance magazine critic Deirdre Kelly.

As recording artist Rawzen, he has performed at music venues such as The Milestone, The Neighborhood Theatre, Tremont Music Hall and New Brookland Tavern. He has also written tribute songs to legedendary African American ballerina (and personal friend) Raven Wilkinson of the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo and to Maurice Bejart, founder of Bejart Ballet Lausanne. Mr. Russell is currently a grad student at University of Iowa where he also teaches  dance and choreography.
